Anawalt Lumber is invested in improving the sustainability of the communities we serve and in stocking our stores environmentally friendly alternatives were included whenever available. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, and we’ll continue to look for ways to improve the programs at our stores.
Forests are a critical element of the global environment and we are concerned about the protection of that environment and recognize through the products that we sell, that we can play an important role in the future of global forests. We are committed to purchasing lumber from forest product companies that employ sustained yield harvesting plans and environmentally sound practices. Currently there are two independent organizations that certify that these practices take effect, SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) and FSC (FSC Forest Stewardship Council). The vast majority of the lumber we stock is certified by either one or both of these organizations.
We carry a full range of green alternatives including, but not limited to, cleaning supplies, organic gardening products, energy-efficient lighting, water-saving irrigation and accessories, and household goods.
We also employ the following principles:
- Provide customers with environmentally-responsible products, packaging and services at everyday low prices whenever available.
- Comply with environmental laws and maintain programs and procedures to ensure compliance. This includes supporting efforts to enforce accurate, informative labeling of products with environmental marketing claims.
- Educate and engage employees and customers on the importance of conserving resources, reducing waste, and recycling.
- Use our resources – energy, fuel, water and materials – more efficiently and responsibly to minimize our environmental footprint.
